Alaska search options and record coverage
The official search page permits entity-number lookup and entity-name searches with Starts With or Contains matching, plus a Current Only filter. The same state search system exposes separate searches for officials and agents and links to downloadable corporations, officials, and agents datasets. The search is a public registry index; confirm status, reports, agents, and filed documents from the individual entity record.
Checking a business name in Alaska
Every Alaska business entity name must be distinguishable from reserved and registered names in the Corporations database. Most entity types require a corporate indicator, and an unregistered business may not use terms such as Corporation, Limited, LLC, LLP, or similar wording that implies a registered entity. A reservation lasts 120 days and is temporary; a five-year Business Name Registration is a different product and requires a license. The state evaluates distinguishability on the record, so changes in punctuation, capitalization, spacing, or generic designators should not be assumed to cure a conflict. Search the database, then rely on the Division's acceptance.
Alaska name reservations
$25.00 for a new Business Name Reservation, which protects the name for 120 days. Alaska also offers a five-year Business Name Registration for $25.00, but that is a distinct name-rights product and requires a business license; a foreign corporate-name registration is $25.00 and lasts through the end of the calendar year. The online reservation posts immediately; paper processing is generally 10–15 business days in March–September and can exceed 15 business days in October–February.
DBA, trade names, and fictitious names
Alaska uses Business Name Registration for a DBA/trade name. The registration is $25.00, grants exclusive rights to the registered business name for five years, and requires a business license first. Renewal is $25.00 and must be filed between October 1 and December 31 of the fifth calendar year before expiration. An entity's legal name is automatically registered through the Corporations Section, so a separate registration is generally for a different operating name.
