Georgia eCorp searches entities by name or control number and provides public entity status, registered-agent/office information, annual-registration history, and filed documents. The Secretary's annual-registration workflow requires the control number or entity name, filer identity, email, principal-office address, and registered-agent information. Name availability and reservation are separate from the public entity search.
Checking a business name in Georgia
Georgia issues a name only when it is distinguishable for filing purposes from other names in the Corporations Division records. The Secretary warns that a name that passes the filing test may still be unavailable in the marketplace because of trademark, trade-name, professional-licensing, or unfair-competition rights. Entity suffixes, capitalization, punctuation, spacing, and generic descriptors should not be assumed to cure a conflict. Restricted terms such as college or university require written approval.
Georgia name reservations
Georgia name reservation is $35.00 total online or paper under the current public guidance: $25.00 filing fee plus $10.00 service charge. The reservation is for 30 days and is optional; an entity can form without reserving first. The reservation only means the Secretary found the name distinguishable for filing purposes and does not guarantee marketplace, trademark, or licensing availability.
DBA, trade names, and fictitious names
Georgia trade names are filed locally with the county Clerk of Superior Court, not through the Secretary of State's Corporations Division. County fees, publication, and renewal rules apply. A trade name does not change the entity's legal name.
