An Idaho registered agent may be an individual who lives in Idaho or a business entity authorized to do business in Idaho. The agent must maintain a physical Idaho street address, not merely a P.O. box, and be available during normal business hours. The entity may serve as its own agent through a qualified individual/address, but an assumed business name cannot serve as a registered agent. Agent name and address are public record.
Idaho agent changes: forms and fees
Idaho's Change or Termination of Registered Agent for Service of Process form has a $30.00 base fee plus $20.00 manual processing for paper filing, or $50.00 paper total; online SOSBiz filing avoids the manual charge. Resignation, notice, and effective dates
Idaho uses a Change or Termination of Registered Agent for Service of Process filing for an agent's resignation or termination. The public fee schedule lists a $30.00 base fee plus $20.00 manual processing on paper, and the entity must appoint a qualified successor to avoid a vacancy. The resignation's effective date and notice mechanics are governed by the form and Idaho entity statute; an agent should retain proof of filing and notice.
Consequences of a missing agent or address
An Idaho entity without a qualified registered agent or physical Idaho office can miss service of process and state notices, become delinquent or forfeited, lose good-standing evidence, and face administrative dissolution. Failure to receive a lawsuit does not eliminate the consequences of default. Substitute service or SOS notice mechanisms, if available under statute, do not replace the continuing appointment requirement.
Confirm the change reached the public record
Keep the accepted filing and confirm the agent or service address shown for the business. Arrange forwarding of legal notices during the change, and check which contact information will be public before supplying a home address.
